Hard Steps est une publication issue du projet photographique et de recherche Nepal/Odemira de Nelson Miranda, édité par Susana Lourenço Marques (Pierrot le Fou). Ce projet explore les enjeux migratoires, en se concentrant sur la population népalaise résidant à Odemira (au sud du Portugal) et sur les lieux, les communautés et les familles népalaises d'où elle est partie. L'ouvrage reproduit des photographies et des témoignages recueillis au Portugal entre 2020 et 2023 et au Népal (avril-juin 2023).
Cet ouvrage examine l'impact de l'expansion de cette communauté – l'une de celles qui ont connu la croissance la plus rapide au Portugal ces dernières années (en pourcentage) – et qui s'est initialement implantée pour pallier le manque de main-d'œuvre dans le secteur agricole florissant de cette région.
Au Népal, les rampes et les escaliers qui permettent d'accéder à l'intérieur de nombreuses maisons et petits commerces et qui les protègent des pluies de mousson, tout en se distinguant par leur géométrie, leur couleur et leur texture particulières, semblent inspirer les images illustrant les défis et les obstacles rencontrés par de nombreux Népalais et Népalaises lors de leur migration. La publication comprend des photographies, des titres de journaux portugais et népalais, des témoignages de proches de migrants, ainsi que des textes de l'écrivaine Manjushree Thapa, du journaliste Bhrikuti Rai et du sociologue Pedro Góis.

Shipping
We ship from Wednesday to Saturday (except public holidays and annual closures).
An estimate of the delivery time is indicated when ordering. A shipment confirmation as well as a parcel tracking number will be sent to you by email when the parcel is picked up by the carrier.
The average times indicated do not constitute a strict deadline. LE BAL Books cannot be held responsible in the event of a late delivery.
If all of the books ordered are not in stock at the bookstore and you wish to receive the first part of your order, a delivery in two times is possible.

Pick up
The free pick up of your order at the bookstore is available upon presentation of an identity document. Any order not collected from the shop within one month of payment will be automatically refunded.
Shipping fees
Shipping costs are calculated based on the chosen carrier, the weight and the delivery address of your package. Once your order is in your cart, you can have an estimate of the shipping costs offered by each transport service.
Return
Retraction possible within 7 days from receiving the order. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Returned books must be in perfect condition. The bookstore reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of the books if this shouldn't be the case.
