NEW BAUHAUS CHICAGO EXPERIMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Artist: Collectif

Author: Collectif

Publisher: Hirmer

To mark the start of the great Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, the Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung Berlin is presenting its ‘New Bauhaus Photography’ collection, the only one of its kind in Europe. It presents the protagonists and institutions that, since the founding of the New Bauhaus in Chicago in 1937, have inspired, created and collected photography, and then presented it to the public. The wide range of illustrations extends from abstract photograms and material experiments to series of conceptual and process-oriented works. Contemporary works from Chicago complete the picture and reflect the importance of the Bauhaus thought process for the present.

Published to coincide with the 2018 exhibition New Bauhaus Chicago: Experiment Photography and Film at the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin, the book features work by artists including Harry Callahan, György Kepes, Nathan Lerner, László Moholy-Nagy, Arthur Siegel and Aaron Siskind.
