An incredible series of raw energy zines. Very little photographic works managed to transcribe the atmosphere of Tokyo in the 1970’s like Kitajima did.
On the occasion of the exhibition "Tokyo-e", Steidl and LE BAL republish in facsimile Photo Express: Tokyo, a mythical series of 12 booklets by Keizo Kitajima, as well as a thirteenth unpublished booklet.
Punk black and white fanzines, these publications result from his remarkable work exhibited from January to December 1979, at the CAMP gallery in Tokyo, the first independent photographic gallery in the city. The publication of the booklets was done monthly in parallel with performance exhibitions in the space. At that time, every month, a new selection of images saturated the gallery walls from floor to ceiling: grids of images or enlarged prints, unexpectedly, in the wake of the shooting and almost in real time. To create these images, Kitajima shot at night, walking around the streets, bars and clubs of Tokyo, capturing the buzzing energy of the city. It’s all this raw urban energy of a long gone era that is captured in this incredible and sold ou publication!

Pick up
The free pick up of your order at the bookstore is available upon presentation of an identity document. Any order not collected from the shop within one month of payment will be automatically refunded.

Return
Retraction possible within 7 days from receiving the order. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Returned books must be in perfect condition. The bookstore reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of the books if this shouldn't be the case.
