The Ravine, The Virgin, & The Spring

Artist: Juan Brenner

Publisher: Pomegranate Press

After the book Tonatiuh (out-of-print), Guatemalan photographer Juan Brenner returns with this new publication released with small press publisher Pomegranate. A photographer to follow!

A young self-taught Guatemalan photographer, Juan Brenner lived in NYC for 10 years before returning to Guatemala City and producing with RM Editorial one of our favorite books in 2019, Tonatiuh. Among other things, the book explored the Spanish colonization and its long-term effects on the country. A subject whose essence we find again in The Ravine, The Virgin, & The Spring, his second book produced with Pomegranate Press.

"I’m really interested in how history has shaped our way of life and in this instance, I dialogue with the city in search of understanding how we got here. Primitive urban planning, the 20th century and its political turmoil, internal war, natural disasters and globalization, have made Guatemala City one of the most eclectic and peculiar places I’ve ever been to.” - Juan Brenner
